Mokokchung, July 6 (MTNews): The ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) in Nagaland declared full support to NDA’s presidential candidate Droupadi Murmu on Wednesday for the July 18 presidential election.

 

 

The NDA presidential candidate Droupadi Murmu is on a campaign tour of the NE region and visited Nagaland on Wednesday after visiting Tripura and Manipur the previous days. Murmu held a closed-door interaction with the UDA legislators led by Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio at a resort in Chümoukedima district Wednesday evening, a PTI report said.

 

She was accompanied by Union Minister Sarbanada Sonowal and BJP national spokespersons Nalin Kholi and Pratima Bhoumik. Rajya Sabha MP from the state Phangnon Konyak was also present during the meeting.

 

Nagaland government spokesperson Neiba Kronu is reported to have said that all the legislators of UDA and the two MPs of the state are in consensus and that they will unanimously support Murmu.

 

“She is from the tribal community, and a candidate for the highest post of the country. We are proud and we should all support her,” PTI reported Kronu as saying.

 

Meanwhile, Nagaland chief minister Neiphiu Rio congratulated Droupadi Murmu on being nominated as the NDA Presidential candidate. He also thanked the NDA and BJP for selecting a tribal woman. “Her nomination exemplifies the inclusive approach of NDA & BJP leadership,” Rio said. Rio also said that Murmu will make an “exemplary President and uphold the Constitution of India with high dignity, bringing respect and honour to India.”

 

“May she win with a thumping majority and contribute towards nation building process with her inspirational leadership,” Rio added.
