Kohima, 30 November (MTNews): Senapati Sporting Club (SSC) were unbeatable at the 10th Kohima Open Volleyball Tournament 2023 as they won both men’s and women’s categories of the tournament held at IG Stadium, here on Thursday.
Finalists Japfüphiki Volleyball Club were no match for the Senapati team as they defeated them by three straight set in the men’s final. Senapati SC had earlier defeated the defending champions Kiruphema Youth Organization in the semifinal by 3-0 sets.
The winners Senapati SC walked away with a cash prize of Rs 80,000 each along with the trophy and citations while Japfüphiki Volleyball Club walked away with a cash prize of Rs 50,000.
In the women’s category, the defending champions Senapati SC successfully defended the title for the second time beating MADFA Club Dimapur in the final match. Despite hiccups in the third and fourth sets, the team managed to win 3-1.
The champions were awarded a cash prize of Rs 50,000 while the runners-up walked away with a cash prize of Rs 30,000.
Eight teams in the men’s category and six in women’s category, including one team each from Manipur, participated in the three-day tournament organized by the Department of Youth Resources and Sports (DYRS) in collaboration with the Kohima District Volleyball Association (KDVA).
