A devastating house fire broke out in Upper Khel, Aonglenden, Ungma village, on Monday morning, January 27, resulting in significant destruction and losses. The blaze completely destroyed one house, left another majorly damaged, and caused minor damage to a third. Sources said that the families affected were left with little to no salvageable belongings.


The Officer-in-Charge of the Fire Department, Mokokchung, informed MT that they received the distress call at around 9:22 a.m. In response, fire engines from Marepkong and Sungkomen fire stations were dispatched to the scene. Personnel from the Assam Rifles also assisted in extinguishing the fire, successfully preventing the it from spreading to other houses in the congested area.

While no fatalities were reported, verbal estimates suggest the cost of damages to be between Rs 10–15 lakh. The cause of the fire remains unknown.


In the aftermath, the Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS), Mokokchung district branch, stepped in to provide relief to the three affected families, who are now grappling with the losses caused by the incident.
