Ungma village selected as Horticulture Model Village for banana cultivation

Mokokchung, 13 September (MTNews): The Horticulture Minister of Nagaland, Salhoutuonuo Kruse has announced that starting from this year, the Horticulture Department will be coming up with the creation of Horticulture Model Villages (HMVs) by selecting a village in each district in the State. The aim of creating HMVs is to take horticulture development programs to all districts of the State equally, and to enhance and maximize the potential of every district, she said.

Under this plan, Ungma village has been selected as the HMV from Mokokchung for banana cultivation.

 

The core objective for developing these HMVs, according to the minister, is to establish these villages as “exemplary models of sustainable development” achieved through strategic, systematic, and participatory interventions under the Mission Integrated Development of Horticulture (MIDH) program.

 

Old Poilwa village in Peren (Naga king chili), Vidima village in Chumoukedima (pineapple), Bamunpukhuri village in Dimapur (banana), Lotovi village in Niuland (dragon fruit), Khonoma village in Kohima (kiwi), K Station Village in Tseminyu (banana), Thuvopisu village in Phek (kiwi), Sapotimi village in Zunheboto (chili), Meriyan village in WOkha (banana), Tsongphong village in Kiphire (Naga king chili), Noklak village in Noklak (citrus), Shiponger village in Shamator (citrus), Lirise village in Tuensang (kiwi), Ungma village in Mokokchung (Banana), Yongshei village in Longleng (citrus), and Tanhai village in Mon (citrus) are the selected HMVs.
