The United Sangtam Students’ Conference (USSC), the apex body of the Sangtam students’ community, has raised concerns over the prolonged delay in the construction of the Assistant Mechanical Engineer (AME) Office in Kiphire.

During an inspection of the ongoing project on 11 November 2025, the USSC observed that the building, for which the work order was issued in 2023, remains incomplete. According to the inspection, the structure is nearly finished, with only painting and electrical wiring pending.

The USSC highlighted that despite Kiphire being declared a district headquarters in February 2004, the Mechanical office has yet to be bifurcated, leaving the district without a fully functional office even after 21 years.

The student body called for clarity on whether the delay is due to departmental oversight or contractor inefficiency. Irrespective of the reason, the USSC has demanded that the construction be completed and the office made operational by early 2026.

The Conference also pledged to monitor progress closely to ensure the timely completion of the project.
