Mokokchung, March 6 (MTNews): The Western Angami Public Organization (WAPO) has condemned the post poll related violence inflicted upon some employees of the PHE department at Science College area in Jotsoma in the wee hours of March 5 by some “unscrupulous people.”

 

An update from WAPO on Monday stated that the area had the distinction of being a violence-free area in all the earlier state general elections since 1964.

 

Condemning the act of violence, the organization warned that such acts of violence will not be tolerated “as it smears and tarnishes the good image of the entire area.”
The organization further demanded the concerned authorities to book and punish the perpetrators as per the appropriate sections of the law.

 

Meanwhile, in another statement received here on Monday, the 8-Western Angami Assembly Constituency unit of the NDPP said that it vehemently condemn “the act of physical violence meted out to the staffs of the PHED, water reservoir at Kohima Science College, Jotsoma on the 27th of Feb., 2023 and the 4th of March, 2023 midnight.”

 

“On the 27 of Feb 2023, the car which was duly a permitted vehicle of the candidate was halted for hours by the youths at Kohima Science College, wherein the driver was beaten up and the vehicle with the other three occupants were released only after 4:00 PM,” the party unit stated.

 

“On the midnight of 4th March, 2023, around 1:00AM-2:00AM, a group of people identified as Mr. Melie Nakhro and party had broke upon the gate and physically manhandled 9 persons, which include women and students alleging them as responsible for the defeat of their candidate (Independent) and were asked to leave the area immediately,” it said, adding that “the victims mobile phones were snatched and damaged.” It also said that one of the victims has been hospitalized and is undergoing medical treatment at a private hospital.

 

The NDPP unit said that an FIR had been filed for both the incidents. While condemning the acts, the NDPP unit asked the authorities to arrest the culprits at the earliest and initiate necessary action so that no such undemocratic incidents occur in the future.
