The spirit of football in Mokokchung is yet to die down as MDFA president, Meyisanger Lemtur expressed the association’s desire to set up football coaching clinics in the district.
“We do not have a license holder coach in the district; that is why it is difficult to train the youngsters well. And if we try to bring in coaches from other states and train our youths, the expenses for that matter are really huge. That is why, if only the youngsters of our district are interested, we are planning to come up with a coaching clinic for the coaches,” said Meyisanger Lemtur to Mokokchung Times.
On being asked if there has been any progress made, he said that it is on a “planning process” and would begin only after the MDFA tournament which is scheduled to be held in the month of October this year.
“Although we do have state coaches, it will be best if we have a coaching clinic in the district so that we can bring people from outside if only our youngsters are enthusiastic about it. Regarding this, we are planning to tie up with the Youth Resources Department,” he disclosed.
Speaking on how to keep the spirit of football alive in Mokokchung after a highly successful Dr. T. Ao Trophy, he said they will resume the activities such as the Inter-School Football Tournament but in association with the Department of School Education, if possible.
“As a parent organization, MDFA used to host an Inter-School Football Tournament every year but due to financial constraints and the pandemic, we have put a hold on the tournament but we are planning to revive the tournament but this time, we will plan on tying up with the Department of School Education. We have heard something about a scheme relating to this under RMSA so such talks are in the process. But the department is yet to give their final nod,” he concluded.
