The Western Chakhesang Hoho (WCH) has strongly condemned the brutal assault on the President of the Western Chakhesang Youth Organization (WCYO) on May 2 at Naga United Village, expressing serious concern over what it described as a growing threat posed by anti-social elements.
In a statement, the Hoho alleged that the attack was carried out by two habitual offenders currently out on bail along with their accomplices, and described the incident as a case of street hooliganism where a lone individual was allegedly attacked by a group, resulting in grievous injuries and damage to property.
The Hoho termed the incident deeply disturbing and said such acts are against the values of peace, brotherhood and harmonious coexistence.
It stated that the incident has raised wider concerns over public safety, particularly as anti-social elements continue to operate without fear, creating insecurity among both community leaders and the general public.
While acknowledging the prompt response of law enforcement agencies in arresting some of the accused, including Inoto Chishi, WCH urged authorities to intensify efforts to apprehend the remaining accused and ensure that justice is delivered without delay.
The Hoho also said it would closely monitor the investigation and cautioned against any interference that could compromise due process.
“There can be no leniency towards such anti-social elements,” the statement said, adding that those responsible must face the full consequences of the law to deter future violence.
The WCH reaffirmed its solidarity with the victim, WCYO and its members, and said it would continue to stand against violence, intimidation and anti-social behaviour.
It also thanked various organizations and individuals who have condemned the incident and extended solidarity, calling for collective efforts to ensure peace, justice and public safety.
