Wokha, 2 May (MTNews): Police in Wokha have arrested a suspect in connection to the collapse of a power tower near Riphyim Old area under Wokha District.

Additional SP and PRO Wokha, K Soriso, informed that on 28 April, a written complaint report was received from the Executive Engineer (Transmission), Kohima Division, Er Namheu Khate Zeliang, regarding the collapse of one 132 KV single circuit tower of the 132 KV Wokha–Sanis Transmission line between Yikhum and Riphyim village during the early hours of 27 April.

In response to the incident, a dedicated team was immediately constituted under the leadership of SDPO Wokha, Sangthing Khiam, and the case was duly endorsed to UBI, Ginlunlal Tungnung, O/C PS Wokha as Investigating Officer. Initial investigations revealed that nuts and bolts of the tower members were missing, suspected to have been removed and stolen by unknown miscreants, resulting in the structural collapse of the tower.

The team meticulously recorded all suspects and scrap dealers in the surrounding areas, diligently scrutinizing them. With technical support and assistance from the Cyber Crime Cell, DEF Wokha, the team narrowed down to two suspects and launched a swift and stealthy operation, leading to a breakthrough.

The main accused, Likho Kithan, aged 32 years, V/o Yikhum, presently residing at Tsumang “A” Colony, was apprehended on April 30th, 2024, and booked under U/S 379/336 IPC R/W U/S 3 Damage to Public Act R/W U/S 136 Electrical Act.

Wokha Police assured the public that every effort is being made to arrest all those connected with the case to prevent such incidents from occurring in the future.
