The Lotha Hoho (LH) has expressed strong concern over six consecutive days of irregular power supply and total blackout across Wokha district, saying the prolonged disruption has caused severe hardship to residents, disrupted businesses, and affected students.

According to the Hoho, fespite the existence of double feeder transmission lines – one at Sanis Town and another at Wokha Town – meant to provide alternative supply in case of transformer damage or breakdown, the district continued to suffer without electricity for nearly a week.

The situation was worsened due to interrupted water supply in Wokha Town headquarters for over two and a half months, leaving many submersible pumps non-functional. In light of these issues, the Lotha Hoho has placed several demands before the Power Department: Wokha district must not face such prolonged blackouts, especially when the Doyang Hydro Electric Project, located within the district, generates 75 MW of electricity.

As Wokha district ranks third in revenue collection from both commercial and domestic billing in Nagaland, uninterrupted power supply must be ensured.

The department must maintain standby transformers for immediate replacement in case of breakdowns or damage.

The Lotha Hoho strongly urged the Power Department to take immediate corrective measures and ensure that such failures do not recur in the future, as they gravely affect the lives and livelihoods of the people of Wokha district.
