A three-day workshop on Inclusive Assessments began today, 11 December 2024 in Nagaland, focusing on strengthening inclusive assessment practices for students with diverse abilities. The workshop, part of the Exam Reforms component under the NECTAR Project, is being led by expert resource persons from Educational Initiatives (Ei), an external agency brought on board for the initiative.

The workshop aims to build the capacity of various stakeholders, including teachers, officials, and education coordinators, to improve accessibility in school and board examinations.

On the first day, teachers will receive training on inclusivity and accessibility in school exams, learning how to create question items that allow students with diverse abilities to effectively demonstrate their knowledge. The second day will focus on capacity-building for Inclusive Education Coordinators and Inclusive Education Resource Persons (IE RPs) under Samagra Shiksha. These sessions will help them understand how to support children with special needs in accessing school exams and the accommodations provided by the Nagaland Board of School Education (NBSE) for board exams.

The third and final day of the workshop will concentrate on system-level training for officials from NBSE, Department of School Education (DoSE), SCERT, Samagra Shiksha, ANPSA, and CEDOK. Discussions will center on how the State of Nagaland can enhance its assessment and examination processes to be more inclusive for children with special needs, promoting an education system that is accessible to all.
