World Oral Health Day 2026 was observed at the Capital Convention Centre, Kohima, on March 20 under the theme “A Happy Mouth is a Happy Life.”
Additional Secretary, Health and Family Welfare Department, Renabomo Odyuo (NCS), attended the programme as special guest. Addressing the gathering, he said the day is observed globally to raise awareness on the importance of oral health for overall wellbeing and quality of life. He stressed the need for community participation, involving families, schools and healthcare workers, with special emphasis on mothers in shaping health habits. He also congratulated the Nagaland Dental team for receiving two national awards in 2025.
Director (Health), Directorate of Health and Family Welfare, Dr. Sendimeren Aonok, highlighted the rising cases of periodontal disease, dental caries and oral cancer in the state. He called for an integrated approach linking oral and general health and emphasized the role of dental surgeons in awareness and prevention. He informed that dental health units across the state are being upgraded with modern equipment.
The programme was chaired by Dr. Reyosalu Lase, while Dr. I. Arenla Walling delivered the welcome address. A technical session on oral health and oral cancer followed the programme.
