The Kohima District Planning & Development Board (DPDB) reviewed development, infrastructure, waste management and public welfare issues at its meeting held on September 22.
The meeting was chaired by Deputy Commissioner B Henok Buchem in the presence of DPDB Chairman and Advisor for School Education Dr Kekhrielhoulie Yhome.
The Board felicitated R Ronald Meru, teacher at Government Higher Secondary School, Sechü-Zubza, for receiving the National Teachers’ Award 2026. It also agreed to recommend the shifting of Bumble Bee Inclusive School.
Under the Ni-kshay Mitra Initiative 2026, the Board decided to organise a donation drive for economically weaker TB patients. Members were encouraged to support patients with Rs 500 per month for six months. Dr Yhome said the common pool would also be used and stressed that assistance should reach genuinely needy patients.
District departments were directed to submit their reform measures by October 5 for Reform Utsav 2026. The Board agreed to recommend to NHIDCL the maintenance of an 18-km stretch from Ayush Hospital, Sakhabama to Pudunamei via Kezoma for heavy motor vehicles and the Phesama Junction-Kipfuzha road for light motor vehicles. Dr Yhome also called for a meeting with road contractors to ensure maintenance compliance and proper deposit of labour cess.
Officials reviewed the Mima Water Supply Facility, including its power dependence, manpower, logistics and asset maintenance.
The Integrated Solid Waste Management Plan 2026 for Kohima was also discussed, with emphasis on source segregation, waste-stream management, dumpsite management and Extended Producer Responsibility. The DC reminded Bulk Waste Generators of their responsibilities.
DDMA presented an action-taken report on disaster incidents at several locations, including Lower Chandmari, Phesama-Kisama Road and Khonoma.
Dr Yhome called for stronger inter-departmental coordination, effective use of development resources and greater utilisation of Common Service Centres. The DC also urged departments to nominate deserving personnel for the Kohima District Award for Distinction in Public Service.
