The Yimkhiung Tribal Council (YTC) has issued a strongly worded condemnation over the “barbaric and suspected murder” of Late Yansomong Yimkhiung, a permanent resident of Sangphur village under Shamator district, whose body was found under mysterious circumstances on the Mariani-Titabor railway track in Assam.

In a statement, the YTC said it “in its strongest term condemns the barbaric and suspected murder” of Yansomong, who was employed with Vodafone Telecom Company. According to the council, the deceased had left for Mariani on May 5, 2025, from Mokokchung at 2:00 PM for a training program. He was reportedly dropped at Amguri Train Station around 5:00 PM the same day by two companions, identified as Er Mujano and driver Neojikhiung, for an onward journey to Guwahati.

However, three days later, on May 8, 2025, Yansomong’s body was discovered at the Mariani-Titabor railway track under what the YTC described as “mysterious circumstances.”

Calling for swift justice, the YTC demanded that “the competent law enforcement agencies must investigate the reason leading to his death and leave no stone unturned to deliver the befitting justice by arresting the culprit/s involved in the heinous crime leading to the loss of life.”

The council has urged authorities to treat the case with the seriousness it deserves, and ensure that justice is served without delay.
