Herato Sukhalu, Chairperson of the Zunheboto Town Council (ZTC), recently outlined the significant improvements made to the council’s office infrastructure, which had been in poor condition prior to his assumption of office three months ago.
According to an update received here, Sukhalu credited the Government of Nagaland’s Urban Development Department for allocating funds for office maintenance, enabling the ZTC to upgrade the building. He also highlighted the addition of new furniture, which he said had improved the functionality and working environment of the office.
As the festive season approaches, including Ahuna and Christmas, Sukhalu mentioned that the council was actively addressing infrastructure issues, particularly potholes. He assured the public that efforts to fill potholes from the main junction to the District Sports Council Ground were underway, aiming to improve road conditions ahead of the holiday season.
On the sanitation front, Sukhalu informed that the sanitation vehicle is still under maintenance, but it is expected to be operational soon. He also urged the government to allocate a dedicated vehicle for sanitation services to help resolve the town’s cleanliness challenges more effectively.
Regarding parking management and the collection of parking taxes which was launched on 5 November at DC Office Junction, Sukhalu commended the people of Zunheboto for their cooperation and support. He expressed confidence that with continued public support, Zunheboto could soon match the growth and development of other urban centers like Dimapur and Kohima.
“Things are going very well now, and if we continue on this track, Zunheboto will shine,” Sukhalu reportedly stated, highlighting the potential for future progress and the ZTC’s continued commitment to improving town management.
The ZTC is also planning to install 10 to15 high-quality CCTV cameras in key areas of the town to enhance security. Sukhalu revealed that the council aims to roll out the CCTV project by December or January.
“Despite challenges, Sukhalu remains optimistic about the future of Zunheboto and the ZTC’s role in its growth. He concluded by encouraging residents to continue engaging with the council, noting that the office remains open to everyone, particularly in terms of business development and community involvement,” the update added.
However, he mentioned that the funds received for office renovations were not sufficient, as there are still several areas requiring attention and improvement.
