Kohima, 05 October (MTNews): Defending champions New Market FC defeated A Yhome FC 2-0 in the first quarter finals in the ongoing 23rd NSF Martyrs’ Memorial Trophy played here at IG stadium Kohima on Thursday.

In a tightly contested match, both teams were equally poised in the first half with both teams failing to break through. Yhome FC played a better half with Johnny Ritse missing a golden opportunity.

However, it was the playmaker Khiuwangbo Kaurinth for New Market that made the difference in the second half. He set up Petevizo Kezieo from a corner kick to slot home the lead in the 51st minute, while Khiuwangbo Kaurintah doubled the score himself for New Market set up by Rhitsho Mero in the 67th minute.

Yhome FC failed to respond back with their lack of finishing from their end and New Market won the match with two goals in the match.

New Market has not conceded a goal till now in four matches but has scored 25 goals. Delhi FC goalkeeper James Kithan playing for New Market FC is yet to concede a goal in four matches.
Player of the match was awarded to Khiuwangbo Kaurintah of New market FC, handed over by Khrielievi Chüsi, former AYO president and match patron for the first quarterfinal.
