Mokokchung, February 27 (MTNews): Alleging that NDPP candidate Sharingain Longkumer’s supporters has practiced ‘proxy voting’ in Ungma Village today during the poll, the Indian National Congress candidate Toshipokba Longkumer have filed a re-poll application with the Returning Officer of 26 Aonglenden AC, Longdiba L Sangtam. A ‘scrutiny meeting’ is to be held on Tuesday to address the matter.

According to the candidate’s Chief Agent, Amongin Imsong, NDPP supporters ‘took control’ of polling stations I, II, III, V, VI, and VII in Ungma village.
He stated that no one, not even polling agents, was permitted to enter two of the polling stations.

“Even polling agents were not permitted to enter polling stations I, II, and VI. Polling agents were permitted in PS III, but voters were not permitted to approach the polling booths,” he alleged.

He also stated that they had contacted security, but the security did not know who was on INC and who was on NDPP and therefore, could not be of much help.
“The NDPP entered the polling booth repeatedly but Congress voters were not allowed to come near the booth,” he claimed.

“There was a security shortage. They patrol from one location to another, so when the security is present, they (NDPP voters) allow the INC voters to stand in line, but when the security patrols to another location, they push the INC voters away.”

He added that the only effective security personnel are the IRP, but they cannot be present at all times.

Meanwhile, the Returning Officer of 26 Aonglenden AC, Longdiba L Sangtam, told Mokokchung Times that after hearing the complaints, they went to the site twice but found nothing of what was claimed in their presence.

However, he added that a scrutiny meeting with the Observers, Presiding Officers, and both candidates will take place on Tuesday at 11:00 am.
