Nagaland had 3,508 NOTA votes in total, with 2 Dimapur II AC receiving the most with 505. Mokokchung District received a total of 301 NOTA votes.

NOTA, or “None of the Above,” is an option that allows voters to legally register a vote of rejection for all candidates running. If a voter presses NOTA, it means that he or she has decided not to vote for any of the parties.

The major goal of the ‘NOTA’ option is to allow voters who do not want to vote for any of the candidates to exercise their right to refuse without jeopardizing the confidentiality of their decision. If the voter believes that the contending candidates do not deserve to be voted for, they must be able to submit a vote of rejection. The right to vote offered to all citizens must include the ability to vote against anything.

NOTA is noteworthy because it predicts the availability of zero ideal candidates; it most likely is also cast by genuine voters and not ‘proxy voters’. Hence, the growing number of NOTA votes over the years is a political statement in and of itself.
