Day 3: Dilong, Tongdentsuyong, Mongsenbai, Penli register win; Artang and Alempang share points
On day 3 of the ongoing Inter-Ward Football Tournament, Dilong, Tongdentsuyong, Mongsenbai and Penli registered wins while Artang and Alempang shared point at the Imkongmeren sports complex, Mokokchung on Friday.
In the first match of the day, Dilong Ward defeated Arkong Ward with a solidary goal. Takotoba scored the lone goal in the 48th minute after expertly maneuvering between the Arkong defence and keeper Imtitoshi to secure all three points from the game.
The second match of the day was a one-sided affair, with Tongdentsuyong Ward destroying Kumlong Ward 4-1. Tongdentsuyong drew first blood in the first half with goals from Yashimeren and Opanglemzung in the 14th and 23rd minutes, respectively. The deal was completed in the second half with goals from Nungsangmeren and Opanglepzung in the 48th and 56th minutes against an already demoralised Kumlong side. Medemchiba scored a consolation goal for Kumlong at the 50th minute.
Unlike their previous match against Marepkong, the third match of the day saw an offensive Mongsenbai Ward play a more defensive style of play against Majakong Ward, scoring only one goal against the opponents. Mongsenbai’s forwards Shiponglepba, Moamongba, Sentichuba, and Toshimongba worried Majakong goalie Kajenkaba Aier with several efforts on goal, and at the 48th minute, defender Limasunep stepped up to score the lone goal past the Majakong keeper.
Penli Ward made headlines again in the fourth match of the day, when Tiakumzuk, Joseph Yepthomi, and Ayimtiba all scored a goal each in their game against Aongza Ward. A loosely guarded Aongza side could not keep the Penli attack at bay as they were continually attacked by the Penli side who found the back of the next in the 16,44,60 minute, concluding the match with 3 goals to none.
The day’s fifth and final match featured an exciting duel between two seasoned sides, as reigning champions Artang faced a stubborn Alempang side. Both Artang and Alempang failed to convert chances in a 50-50 encounter. Goalkeepers from both teams remained busy as strikers from both teams had some excellent attempts at goal. The game eventually ended in a goalless tie, with both sides taking home a point each from the match.
