Mokokchung, March 11 (MTNews): Mokokchung Battalion of the Assam Rifles on Friday arrested five individuals, including four NSCN-IM cadres and a civilian, for carrying out illegal checking of vehicles and extortion at General Area Sutsu Junction near Mokokchung town.
Accordingly, an FIR was lodged at Police Station-II Mokokchung, wherein it was stated that the Assam Rifles troops launched an operation in the said area based on inputs received from sources of extortion being conducted. “On reaching the location, five individuals were seen carrying out illegal checking of vehicles by establishing an illegal Vehicle Check Point,” the FIR stated.
On spot questioning of the individuals, it was confirmed that four individuals were active cadres of NSCN-IM and one was identified as an ex-employee of SBI Mokokchung. All were carrying out extortion activities, it was reported.
The apprehended cadres were identified as SS Leacy Moanungten Ao, SS Kabuer Tia Dianochet, SS Razapeau Sentimeren, and SS Leacy Mia Lipa while the fifth individual was identified as one Konangimba Lemtur.
It was further reported that thorough checking of two cars used by the cadres was carried out and that a Santro car bearing registration number NL-02C 2499, a Maruti 800 bearing registration number AS-01 AH 4200, a Maruti A Star bearing registration number NL-01 P 5589, and an Apache bike bearing registration number AS-03 F 8302 were also recovered, all without documents or any proof of ownership and possibly stolen. Cash of Rs 12,231 and two bottles of IMFL (half quarter) were also recovered.
