Post-poll violence: 16 houses vandalized in Longkhum village

Mokokchung, March 10 (MTNews): In what can be described as post-poll violence, at least 16 houses in Longkhum village were reportedly vandalized by supporters of a candidate in the recent assembly election between 6:00 PM and 10:00 PM on Thursday, March 9. One individual was also reported to have been injured in the incident.

 

According to sources, about eleven persons involved in the violence have been identified and an FIR has been lodged against them. It was also reported that the deployment of IRB personnel has brought the situation under control.

 

Longkhum village falls under the 28 Koridang Assembly Constituency where it witnessed a four-cornered contest between Imkong L Imchen of the BJP, T Chalukumba Ao of the JD (U), Maj (Rtd) Toshikaba of the NPF and an Independent candidate Talitsüba in the recent election where the BJP candidate was declared elected.
