Through the Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Program (PMEGP), a total of 44,616 estimated jobs were generated in Nagaland from 2018 to November 30, 2022. This was claimed by Minister of State for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, Bhanu Pratap Singh Verma in a written reply in Rajya Sabha today.

 

According to the information he gave, PMEGP has assisted about 5,577 projects in Nagaland during the last five years.

 

PMEGP is undertaken by the Ministry of MSME, through Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) to encourage generation of job possibilities by supporting the setting up of micro-enterprises in the non-farm sector.

 

The Ministry of MSME is also undertaking the Scheme of Fund for Regeneration of Traditional Industries (SFURTI) to organize traditional industries and craftspeople into collectives to make their products competitive and offer the artisans with sustainable employment.

 

Since 2014-15, 498 clusters have been recognized under SFURTI, with a GoI contribution of Rs.1292 crore, creating sustainable employment to about 2.94 lakh craftsmen.

 

Furthermore, the Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) is conducting the following projects to create self-employment opportunities in rural and underserved areas: Honey Mission, Kumhar Sashaktikaran Program and Agarbatti Industry.
