Lanutoshi Aier of Lirmen is new AKM President; Next General Conference to be held in Chungtia

 

The 69th edition of the Ao Kaketshir Mungdang (AKM) general conference, which began on January 18 in Akhoya village, Mokokchung district, concluded on January 20 with the induction of new office bearers and the adoption of a 7-point resolution.

T Mulong Aier, Former President AKM, who was present as the valedictory guest, encouraged the students to demonstrate the concept of clean elections without falling into corruption and to participate in the upcoming election in the true sense of selecting good leadership. He also encouraged the students to practice ‘Education in Praxis’ by becoming self-reliant.

 

He went on to conclude by citing John F. Kennedy’s famous quote, “Ask not what your country can do for you – ask what you can do for your country.”

 

During the session, a new set of office bearers for the tenure 2023-2026 was installed with the following members:

Onenpong, Vice President (Kinunger)

Satemmongba, General Secretary (Akhoya)

Pangjungkaba, Asst. General Secretary (Chungtiayimsen)

Lanulemba Longchar, Education Secretary (Süngratsü)

Ayimakum Aier (Longjang), Finance Secretary

Imnayachet Mollier, Culture Secretary (Mongchen)

Temlangsangba, Sports Secretary (Longkhum)

Bendangnangba, Information Secretary (Chungtiayimsen)

 

The dedicatory prayer for the new office bearers was delivered by Lima Imsong, Touring Missionary, Unger.

 

A 7-point resolution was also adopted by the conference at the valedictory session, which included the institution of a UPSC Aspirant Trust Fund – for which the Akhoya Students’ Union donated Rs 5 lakhs, and to hold a conclave in accordance with the conference theme of “Education in Praxis.” Entrepreneurship, Career Guidance, Research Development & Innovation, Financing, and Job Mela will be the focus of the Conclave. An app will also be created to assist students in the mentioned fields.

 

The other 5 points included the resolution that AKM should have an anthem, the task for which was entrusted to the new office bearers.

 

In reiteration of Resolution No.9 of AKM 68th General Conference, Khar pertaining to a decade of preservation and promotion of the Ao language, it was resolved that AKM will support and cooperate with all other groups and institutions working on the subject.

 

It was also resolved that proper documentation of all Ao pioneering figures and AKM monuments and memorials shall be done in view of the approaching AKM centennial, and that a Centenary Planning Committee of AKM shall be appointed 5 years ahead of time.

 

It was also resolved that a committee shall be constituted to work in coordination with the NSF in view of 150 years of ‘Naga Educational Heritage’.

 

Apart from the 7 resolutions, it was also suggested that the AKM general conferences in the future should be organized in a more student-centered manner.

 

Brief speeches were delivered by the outgoing and incoming Presidents as well as Imkongsunep, Convenor, AKM Planning Committee. Aochuba, IFS, Convenor, Local Planning Committee shared the vote of thanks.

 

The 70th AKM General Conference will be held in Chungtia Village and will be hosted by the Chungtia Students’ Union in 2026.
