Changtongya is a major village in the Langpangkong range of Mokokchung district. It is located about 40 Kms north of Mokokchung town along NH 02.
It is said that the ‘changtong aar’ (a kind of cane) was endemic to the area where the village now stands. The founders cleaned the area of the cane plants when they first established the village and thus they named the village after the ‘changtong’ cane.
Both the Mongsen Ao and Jungli Ao phratries settled in the new village when it was initially established during the Mopungsanger Putu, although it is now inhabited exclusively by Jungli Ao.
It is bounded by Yachem village to the east, Yaongyimsen and Merangkong villages to the north, Asangma village to the west and Akhoya village to the south.
