Kohima, November 29 (MTNews): The Eastern Naga Students’ Federation (ENSF) and Eastern Nagaland Womens’ Organization (ENWO) has directed the seven federating units within their ambit to abstain from participation in the Hornbill Festival.

ENSF President Chingmak Chang and ENWO Vice President Yongchem through a “joint directive” has directed their respective federating units to strongly implement the resolution adopted at the ENPO CEC meeting of 14 October 2022 held in Tuensang concerning abstention from participation in the Hornbill Festival followed by its subsequent ENPO CEC re-affirmation of 16 November in Mon.

Meanwhile, the two organizations stated that they have no objection over the Government of Nagaland, deputing Village Guards (VG) personnel to participate in the Statehood Day Celebration on December 1 at Secretariat, Kohima. However, it was stated that the VG personnel may, being Government employees, participate in the Statehood day celebration “in the capacity on official duty” and that they can participate “only in their official uniform and not in Traditional Cultural attire as demanded.”

“The VG personnel are directed not to display any cultural items of the 7 tribes of Eastern Nagas, presentation of cultural songs and dances and use of Morungs allotted to the seven tribes of Eastern Nagas at Kisama as it is totally prohibited as per ENPO-CEC resolution,” the two organizations said.

Further, it was directed that “no individual, group or organization and Government Agencies should display any cultural items belonging to seven tribes of Eastern Nagaland during the entire Hornbill Festival under any circumstances.”

“In the event of failure, the two organizations will have no option but to initiate stringent action against the defaulters,” they said.
