Dimapur, December 7 (MTNews): Dimapur based tribal hohos and civil society organizations has at a consultative meeting held today under the aegis of Naga Council Dimapur resolved to form a Core Committee comprising various civil society organisations (CSOs) including tribal bodies to take concrete actions against illegal taxation, extortion and other activities in Dimapur.
This was informed in a press release issued by Naga Council Dimapur received here. During the meeting, NCD President Etsungmomo Kikon highlighted that the agenda was to implement the public resolution of ‘One Government One Tax’ which was adopted on October 31, 2013 and reaffirmed in the November 30 meeting this year. He asserted that the resolution should be implemented through community participation ‘as public pressure is mounting day by day and may burst out at any time if no remedial measures are taken immediately.’
Kikon also said that numerous complaints about extortion and multiple taxation is ‘ever increasing’ post-pandemic lockdown and added that citizens should take ownership of the city and safeguard it too.
According to the release, the house resolved to reaffirm ‘One Government One Tax’ as the public has had enough of “illegal taxation, extortion, syndicate by individuals, groups, Government agencies” and would no longer be mute spectators but will undertake concrete action with appropriate authorities.
The house also resolved to endorse the NCD to form and empower a Core Committee consisting of the following stakeholders: members of the Vigilance Committee, NCD; Presidents and Chairpersons of Dimapur-based tribal hohos and unions and representatives of DCCF, DUCCF, DDGBA, DNSU, NWHD, DCCI, BAN, EDBA, non-Naga communities and representatives of village councils.
