Mokokchung, December 7 (MTNews): The Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) on Wednesday stated that the people of Nagaland are traveling towards an ‘unknown future’ under the NDPP, BJP and NPF alliance without knowing whether elections would be held or not.

NPCC President K Therie stated in a press release that some people pin their hopes on settlement of the Naga political issue with the intensive negotiations since September 2022 and expect President’s Rule to implement the agreed political solution. But he said, “We do not know what the new features of the negotiations are. The state Government has never sat seriously with the negotiating teams to evolve an agenda for amicable settlement.”

Therie said that the State Government should be in the know of the future of Nagaland. “The people want them to evolve a peaceful and amicable agenda with NSCN (IM) under the Framework Agreement for Nagaland has agreed in principle with the Working Committee’s Agreed Position,” he said.

NPCC on ENPO demand

The Nagaland Congress president stated that integrity of Nagaland State is the theme of his party and appealed to the UDA government to talk with ENPO and address their grievances.

Therie said that “the inner understanding” between Union Home Minister Amit Shah and the ENPO on the demand for Frontier Nagaland state is not known but added that it is anybody’s guess that “voting for BJP will be a factor in consideration of the demand.”

NPF, NDPP and BJP have had no commitment to uphold the integrity of the State, Therie claimed. “They ignored ENPO and are responsible in driving them further in the demand for Frontier Nagaland state. They did not have a heart to address the grievances,” Therie said. “They have insulted ENPO by putting the onus on the Centre,” Therie said, saying that this would be understood as “clearance to push harder” with their demand.

Further, Therie maintained that the State Government has allowed the union government to “play with the future of the people of Nagaland for too long.”

He said that the state government has no vision for the future of Naga people. “They have lost the courage to stand up for the people. Perhaps it is because of the fear for funding insurgents and unknown sources of income in their bank accounts,” Therie said. He went on to say that the state government only wants protection from the BJP Government and that the 12 BJP MLAs “virtually ruled for five years because of this fear.”
