Kohima, January 7 (MTNews): All India Congress Committee (AICC) Secretary i/c Nagaland, Ranajit Mukherjee announced on Saturday at the Congress Bhavan in Kohima that the AICC senior observers for Nagaland Assembly elections MP Mukul Wasnik, AICC In-charge Ajoy Kumar, and the entire AICC delegation responsible for guiding and supervising Nagaland PCC leadership will arrive in Dimapur on January 10.
According to him, the visit is of “monumental significance” to the party because it will not only build morale and enthusiasm within the party, but the key meeting with Nagaland Congress office bearers in Dimapur will be utilized to sketch out the electoral roadmap.
He informed that all PCC office-bearers, ranging from Working President to Secretary and PCC Members, Heads of Departments & Cells, State Body of Frontal Organizations, District Presidents, and significant district office-bearers had been summoned to Dimapur on January 10.
Further, Mukherjee informed that on December 26, 2022, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge appointed Mukul Wasnik, MP as Senior Observer for the Assembly elections in Meghalaya, Nagaland, and Tripura, and Francisco Sardinha, MP and Dr K Jayakumar, MP as observers for the Nagaland Assembly elections.
He also stated that on December 28, 2022, Congress President Mohan Prakash appointed Mohan Prakash as Chairman and Sanjay Dutt and Sankar Malakar to the Screening Committee. Ex-officio members are Dr. Ajoy Kumar, AICC In-Charge of Sikkim, Nagaland, and Tripura; K Therie, President NPCC; and Ranajit Mukherjee, AICC Secretary i/c Sikkim and Nagaland.
The Screening Committee is in charge of selecting candidates through an internal process and finalizing their nomination with the party’s Central Election Authority, he added.
Congress open to any ‘secular alliance’
Speaking to the press, Mukherjee attacked the BJP government stating that, “Unlike BJP, the Congress party does not promise what we cannot deliver,” and informed that the party takes their manifesto exercise seriously.
Speaking on the agendas and manifestos of the party, Mukherjee informed that they have been listening to the grievances from various departments such as industry, Eastern Nagaland, and jobs and said that the party will inform in a different conference.
According to him, the Congress party is open to any ‘secular alliance’ and asked the people to expect a “mix of senior leadership and young candidates”. He also added that ‘women candidates’ are also in the pipeline.
