Chumoukedima, 3 June (MTNews): The Government of Nagaland, in collaboration with the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), Government of India, hosted the State Round Table of the North East Global Investors Summit 2023 at the Rhododendron Hall, Police Complex in Chumoukedima, Nagaland.

 

 

Earlier, with the arrival of investors on 2 June, various discussions ensued aimed at exploring opportunities for collaboration and partnership at Zone Niathu. The investors met with the line departments to discuss specific areas in which the investors are willing to invest and are ready to explore. Some prospective sectors covered include solar energy, marketing agro produce particularly millets, skill development in aviation, etc.

 

 

Nagaland government discusses investment opportunities and challenges at closed-door meeting

 

In preparation for the upcoming State Roundtable for NorthEast Global Summit, a closed-door meeting was held between Central Government officials and State government representatives to deliberate on key focus areas for investment. The meeting, chaired by Chief Secretary J Alam IAS, aimed to explore potential investment avenues and address challenges faced by Nagaland.

 

During the meeting, Chief Secretary J Alam IAS provided an overview of Nagaland, presenting essential facts and figures about the state. He emphasized ongoing and upcoming major projects and identified 18 potential areas for development, including food processing, agro-produce, sericulture production, mineral-based industries, tourism, handloom, handicraft, floriculture, and bamboo-based industries.

 

The discussions highlighted various challenges and constraints faced by the state, some of which are unique to Nagaland. These challenges encompassed the state’s land holding system, the development requirements of border areas, power deficit, infrastructure limitations, human resource constraints, and credit-related issues.

 

One of the major focal points of the meeting was the need to provide credit facilities for entrepreneurs. The participants collectively emphasized the necessity to design Northeast-specific schemes and credit facilities, along with guidelines and policies that cater to the specific needs of the region. Several areas were recommended for exploration, including the feasibility and potential of extracting pineapple fiber, setting up plug-and-play facilities, hotels, agro-based processing centers, and storage facilities.

 

Lok Ranjan, Secretary of the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), concluded the meeting by encouraging the proactive exploration of investment opportunities by the state government. He stressed the importance of creating an ecosystem and services that are conducive to investment. Secretary DoNER acknowledged the aspirations of the people, particularly the youth, and urged the state government to meet their needs. He challenged Nagaland to foster a culture of healthy competition to keep pace with other states.

 

These preliminary meetings, held before the State Roundtable for NorthEast Global Summit 2023, play a crucial role in setting the tone for the main event.
