“For the RPP, the Walk is a philosophy and an excellent medium to share the party’s ideology and vision with our people. The other purpose of this walk is to reach out to the grassroots and to listen to their grievances and hear their vision for a new Nagaland,” the party announced.
RPP further said that the walk is to highlight issues “which has kept the state backward for too long.” The issues to be highlighted include corruption, to save Nagaland from self-serving leaders, AFSPA, backdoor appointments that is killing the aspirations of the youth, the culture that sees politics as a money making machine, and the culture that refuses to empower women and youths. The walk is also against “clan/village/tribe centric governance which is the root of all debauchery in Naga politics.”
Apart from these issues, the RPP said that the party want to share its vision, its aims and objectives, and its thoughts with the common citizens which includes clean election, the promise of good governance by the RPP, to uphold the Rule of law by the RPP, to uphold law and order by the RPP, for a self-reliant economy, to educate people to elect Godly candidates in elections, to show solidarity to families of the Oting Massacre, to highlight the danger of harbouring illegal immigrants, and to protect Naga identity.
“Through this walk, the RPP wants to convey the message that the Rising People’s Party is the only alternative for the suffering public; that, perhaps, it’s not too late to save Nagaland,” the RPP announced.
Talking to Mokokchung Times, President of the Rising People’s Party, Joel Naga, said that about 40 to 50 party members and well-wishers will participate in the walk. On the challenges expected to face on their 40 days’ walk, he said that logistics will be one of their biggest challenges as they are expected to walk about 30-40 kilometers in a day and, hence, have to cook and camp mostly in the wilderness. He also said that first aid kits and medicines are on the ready, in case of a medical emergency. “The party plans to revisit all the places covered in the walk during the election campaigns,” he disclosed.
