The Mangmetong Students’ Union Mokokchung celebrated its Platinum Jubilee (1948-2023) under the theme “Tsüngchi Shisaluyimer” on 24 October at Town Hall, Mokokchung. Imkong L Imchen, MLA & Advisor, Information & Public Relations, Soil & Water Conservation, Government of Nagaland, graced the occasion as the Guest of Honor, and Imnazulu, Associate Pastor of Kohima Ao Baptist Church, delivered the keynote address.

Imchen, in his speech, emphasized the significance of the Mangmetong Students’ Union Mokokchung as a pivotal organization for the Mangmetong villagers. He acknowledged the village’s heritage of producing Nokinketer “Warriors” and their collective strength. Despite their historical “weakness” in diplomacy, he credited the peaceful coexistence of the present generation to the efforts of their forefathers. He called for unity and challenged the students to develop productive livelihoods. He stressed the importance of education and encouraged the students to focus on foundational education in an increasingly competitive world. Imchen urged the students to be courageous, truthful, and hardworking, not to underestimate themselves, and to cultivate a generous spirit.

The main speaker, Imnazulu, Associate Pastor of Kohima Ao Baptist Church, spoke in alignment with the theme, emphasizing that “Tsüngchi” signifies life as one’s true self. He pointed out that the contemporary world requires authentic individuals who embody integrity for the benefit of society. He stressed the need for individuals or societies with critical thinking skills and the ability to provide clinical solutions to complex issues. He highlighted the importance of being vision and goal-oriented, emphasizing the need for passion, plans, and strategies. Imnazulu also called for a redefinition of work ethics, advocating that a person’s status should be defined by the service they provide, not their job position. He concluded by urging everyone to be prayerful, adhere to the Bible, and lead lives of unwavering integrity.

Dembo Longchar, President of MSUM, welcomed all well-wishers and emphasized that the Jubilee is a time for forgiveness, expressing love, and nurturing a close relationship with God in his welcome address. Dr L Imlinichet Imchen, Convenor of the Souvenir Committee, released the Platinum Jubilee Souvenir. Jubilee Greetings were delivered by the President of Mangmetong Senso Telongjem Mokokchung, the President of Ongpangkong Kaketshir Mungdang, and the President of Mangmetong Kaketshir Telongjem.
