JD (U) warns legal action against courier services in Nagaland over absence of doorstep delivery

Mokokchung, 1 December (MTNews): The Nagaland state unit of the Janata Dal (United) has asserted the rights of consumers regarding home delivery services for products and goods, whether ordered online or offline. The JD(U) emphasized that consumers utilizing courier services, whether from private entities or India Post, are entitled to have their ordered items delivered directly to their doorsteps, with charges covering all transportation costs.

However, according to a press statement issued by the General Secretary of JD(U) Nagaland Unit, Imsumongba Pongen, the recent observations by the JD(U) have revealed a concerning trend in the courier services in Nagaland.

Contrary to the expected practice, the JD(U) found that numerous courier companies in Nagaland are not delivering packages to the doorsteps of consumers. Instead, they are compelling customers to personally visit courier offices for collecting their letters or parcels, causing hardships to the consumers.

“The different courier services agents in Nagaland are indeed taking advantage of the ignorance of the consumers who, ignorant of their rights, spent hours of their precious time to go to the courier agents office to collect their ordered products,” expressed JD(U) in dismay.

The JD(U), in this regard, issued a stern warning to all courier companies operating in various parts of the state, especially in interior areas, to immediately cease such unscrupulous practices.

“The JD(U) shall expose such courier agencies and initiate legal action against such erring courier companies,” cautioned JD(U), inviting consumers to contact the JD(U) Public Grievances Auditory for any issues related to the denial of services by any courier agencies in Nagaland.
