In 2020, Mokokchung was celebrated as the “Cleanest City in North East India (25 to 50 Thousand Category)” but, for the past two years, it has fallen off the winner’s list in the Swachh Survekshan Awards. This underscores the urgency for a renewed commitment to cleanliness. Learning from both our successes and challenges, here is a call to action for the transformation of Mokokchung into the cleanest city we envision.

Mokokchung must enhance its waste management system, emphasizing collection, segregation, recycling, and disposal. Intensified awareness campaigns are key to fostering responsible waste practices.

Community involvement is pivotal. Regular clean-up drives led by community members instill pride and responsibility. Collaborating with schools to integrate cleanliness education cultivates a culture of cleanliness in the younger generation.

Investing in the maintenance of public spaces, roads, and drainage systems is critical. The development of green spaces not only beautifies the town but also contributes to a healthier environment.

Leveraging technology for monitoring and reporting cleanliness issues is essential. Introducing a mobile app or online platform empowers residents to actively participate in reporting concerns.

Enforcing anti-littering regulations with consistent monitoring and penalties is a necessary deterrent. This reinforces the understanding that cleanliness is not just a responsibility but a civic duty.

This journey towards cleanliness demands collective commitment. It’s time for citizens to unite in transforming Mokokchung, setting a shining example for others to follow.
