Mokokchung district is making a strong comeback at the Nagaland Olympic and Paralympic Games 2024, already surpassing their entire medal count from the last edition. After failing to secure any gold medals in 2022, Mokokchung has already bagged one gold, one silver, and five bronze medals on the second day of the games.
This impressive performance puts them on track for a much stronger finish compared to the previous edition.

The first gold medal for Mokokchung came in the lawn tennis men’s doubles team event, where Thejaser Khate and Zhaputso Khate dominated their opponents. Watisungla shone in badminton, grabbing a silver in the women’s singles category, while Imlikumla and the pair of Neehal and Sunepbenla brought home bronze medals in the women’s singles and mixed doubles respectively.

Mokokchung’s strength wasn’t limited to racquet sports. The district showcased their skill in taekwondo as well, with Tunali Awomi, Tetsonye Lorin, and Imtisungla winning bronze medals in their respective weight categories. The women’s sepaktakraw team added another bronze to the district’s tally, further solidifying their position in the competition.
This impressive performance on Day 2 is a stark contrast to the previous edition, where Mokokchung only managed two silver medals, and the early success has fueled enthusiasm among athletes and supporters in Mokokchung.
