The Ao Students’ Conference (AKM) has expressed sadness at the passing of its former leader and mentor, Burkumzuk Longkumer IPS. In a condolence message, the AKM said that his tireless dedication to the students’ conference and his selfless commitment to empowering young minds have left an indelible mark.

AKM also said that his leadership, guidance, and wisdom inspired a generation of students to strive for excellence and work towards creating a better world.

“You will be deeply missed, but your legacy will continue to inspire and motivate us to carry on your work,” AKM said. While praying for their departed leader to rest in peace, AKM also conveyed condolences to his family and loved ones.

Late Burkumzuk Longkumer was born on 1st August 1950 in Mopungchuket village under Mokokchung District. He completed his graduation from Fazl Ali College in 1971 and postgraduation from Guwahati University in 1973.

Some of the important responsibilities he undertook in displaying his leadership skills in uplifting the Ao Students’ Conference include:

Assistant General Secretary of Ao Students’ Conference (1969-1970)
General Secretary of Ao Students’ Conference (1971-1973)
Co-editor of Ao Milen (1968-1970)
President of Mopungchuket College Students’ Union (1969-1971)
President of Guwahati Ao Students’ Union (1972-1973)

Following his God-given talent and his dream to become a police officer, Late Burkumzuk cleared his NPSC and joined the Nagaland Police Service on 20 August 1979; in the later years, he was also conferred IPS. He retired from his service as Director Civil Defence and Commandant General Home Guard, Kohima on 31 July 2010.

Late Burkumzuk was a down-to-earth man with a great sense of humor. He was a loving husband and a loving father, looked upon and respected by everyone. He took his last breath on 12 August 2024 and is survived by his wife and children.
