The Deputy Commissioner of Chumoukedima, Polan John, NCS, has issued an order in response to a proposal by the Water Resources Department, Nagaland, Kohima, to implement a centrally sponsored Flood Management & Broad Area Programme (FMBAP) under the Ministry of Jal Shakti, Department of Water Resources, RD & GR, New Delhi. The project aims to manage floods along the floodplains of Chumoukedima District.
In accordance with Sections 41(C) and 51 of the Disaster Management Act, 2005, and in the interest of public safety, the following directives have been issued for the implementation of the flood management project along the Chathe River banks within the district’s jurisdiction:
No person shall obstruct the engineers of the Water Resources Department during the implementation of flood management works.
The free flow of the Chathe River within the jurisdiction of Chumoukedima District must not be obstructed by any person.
The natural or standard waterway, as demarcated by the Water Resources Department, must be maintained at all times, and no encroachment upon the natural waterway will be tolerated.
Any person found violating this order will be subject to punitive action under the Disaster Management Act, 2005, and other relevant laws.
All concerned authorities, including law enforcement agencies, the Water Resources Department, Chumoukedima Town Council, and the public, are directed to ensure strict compliance with this order. The order takes immediate effect and will remain in force until further notice.
