A State-level Bharatiya Bhasha Utsav 2024 with the theme “Unity through Languages” was celebrated at Morung Hall, Directorate of School Education, Kohima, on 11 December 2024.
MLA and Advisor for School Education & SCERT, Nagaland, Dr Kekhrielhoulie Yhome, speaking as a Special Guest, stated that language plays an important and powerful role in society as it represents one’s identity and culture. He urged the people to focus more on promoting our rich culture through language rather than allowing our mother tongue to be endangered.
During the Indian Languages Festival, Dr Mimi Kevichusa Ezung, Associate Professor, Department of Tenyidie, Nagaland University, highlighted a note on Language Development in Nagaland. Dr Mimi made a clarion call to all Tribal Literature Boards to take more interest in documenting their oral stories, folklore, and other cultural elements to preserve their languages and cultures.
Earlier, Thavaseelan K, IAS, Principal Director, DOSE, while chairing the program, mentioned that the Indian Languages Festival is a week-long event to celebrate the diversity of Indian Languages and Culture. It aims to promote the learning of Indian languages, celebrate cultural diversity, and foster a sense of unity and harmony among the people of India.
Other highlights of the program included poetry recitation in various Naga languages and cultural presentation by government schools.
