A one-day state-level training and workshop on the 7th Minor Irrigation Census (MIC), the 2nd Census of Water Bodies, and the 1st Spring Census for the reference year 2022-23 was held on February 25, 2025, at the Chief Engineer Conference Hall, Water Resources Department, Kohima. The event was sponsored by the Ministry of Jal Shakti, Government of India, and organized by the Department of Water Resources, Kohima.

The workshop, attended by district and block-level officials designated as Nodal Officers and Enumerators, aimed to prepare participants for the upcoming census operations. The Chief Engineer and Joint Census Commissioner, WRD, Er K Hutoi Sema, chaired the inaugural program, emphasizing the importance of teamwork for a successful census operation. He also introduced the use of mobile-based apps for data collection, developed by the NIC, New Delhi, and NIH, Roorkee.

Gregory Thejawelie, IAS, Commissioner & Secretary of the Department of Water Resources and Census Commissioner of Nagaland, addressed the participants, urging them to ensure the accuracy and reliability of data collection for effective planning. “Data collection is vital for the formulation of state schemes, and it’s essential that this work be done diligently at the field level,” he said.

Neidilhou Keditsu, Director of Economics & Statistics, also encouraged officials to collect data directly from the source and highlighted the importance of real-time data in making informed decisions.

In the technical session, Er Sobu Angami, SE & Nodal Officer, provided an overview of the census processes. Khriesatuo Kerets, DDS, covered the Village and Ground Water Schedules of the 7th MIC, while Er Krotso Koza, EE, presented on Surface Water Schedules, MIC, Water Body Schedules, and Spring Census. Mobile app administration was handled by Limaasem Aier, UDA, and Kashito Yeptho, LDA Cum CA.

The session concluded with a vote of thanks from Kinazulu IOS.
