A high-level task force has been constituted to enhance investment and streamline policy reforms in the Northeast, as per a statement from the Tripura Chief Minister’s Office (CMO). The decision was made during the 72nd Plenary session of the North Eastern Council (NEC) held in Agartala in December last year.
“Accordingly, it has been decided to constitute a High-Level Task Force in which Dr Saha appointed as Convener, Jyotiraditya Scindia, Union Minister of MDoNER, Conrad Sangma, Chief Minister of Meghalaya, Neiphiu Rio, Chief Minister of Nagaland and Prem Singh Tamang, Chief Minister of Sikkim appointed as Members of the Task Force,” the statement read.
The task force will submit its report to the NEC within six months, outlining recommendations for policy reforms aimed at streamlining approvals, increasing ease of doing business, and addressing investor concerns.
According to the statement, the task force will also identify high-potential sectors and regions within the Northeast, focusing on the creation of investment clusters to promote agro-processing zones, IT parks, renewable energy corridors, and tourism circuits.
The role of the task force is considered vital in attracting investments, both domestic and international, in priority sectors while emphasizing public-private partnerships (PPP).
Union Home Minister Amit Shah attended the NEC meeting last December, where he highlighted the Northeast’s critical role in the anti-drug campaign. He urged Chief Ministers of all northeastern states to take measures to curb the menace, among other key issues.
Shah also directed police chiefs of the northeastern states to hold meetings with the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) and Bureau of Police Research and Development (BPRD) to finalize groundwork for the implementation of three new criminal laws.
During his visit, Shah virtually inaugurated Border Guard Force (BGF) accommodations at the Akhaura Integrated Check Post (ICP), visited Bru resettlement colonies in Haduklau, Dhalai district, attended the National Cooperative Conference in Agartala, and laid the foundation stone for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) state headquarters at Natunnagar, West Tripura district, apart from participating in the NEC meeting.
This was an excellent read. Very thorough and well-researched.
