Whimsy Fresh Flowers has opened its new outlet in Arkong Ward, near the NETTEC Computers in Mokokchung, today, bringing fresh and artificial flowers to customers in the district.
The business is a partnership between Naro and Ajmal. While Naro oversees the business, the Mokokchung outlet will be managed by Ajmal’s brother.
Naro, who worked as a florist in Shillong for 10 years, established Whimsy Fresh Flowers in Dimapur in 2025 before expanding the business to Mokokchung.
Naro said the shop’s primary focus is on natural flowers. She said she decided to open the outlet in Mokokchung because fresh flowers are not readily available on a daily basis, despite the presence of many home-based businesses that require them.
“There are lots of home-based businesses, and fresh flowers are not available every day. People have to buy them from Kohima and Dimapur. This is the gap we would like to fill in,” she said.
Although the shop offers both natural and artificial flowers, Naro said natural flowers will remain the main focus because they are environmentally friendly. She added that flowers are used for almost every occasion, making them a product with year-round demand.
According to Naro, fresh flowers are sourced from Bengaluru, while artificial flowers are brought from Delhi and Mumbai. However, she said the business hopes to source flowers from local growers in the future, describing it as an economically viable option that would also support local producers.
To address the perishable nature of fresh flowers, the shop has installed its own cold storage facility. Naro said the flowers can remain fresh for at least a month when stored under proper conditions, enabling the business to maintain a regular supply.
Expressing confidence in the venture, Naro said she believes the flower business is gradually gaining popularity. She also noted that in many places, even cemeteries have begun using natural flowers out of environmental concern, and expressed hope that the business would be well received in Mokokchung.
