A group of Congress leaders and office-bearers from Mokokchung district has resigned en masse from the Indian National Congress (INC), alleging continued mismanagement and “autocratic functioning” by the Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) leadership.
In a resignation letter addressed to the All India Congress Committee (AICC) president, the signatories—including NPCC officials, District Congress Committee (DCC) officials, Youth Congress and Mahila Congress leaders, the chairman of the Minority Department, the chief organiser of Seva Dal, DCC advisors and active executive members, announced their resignation from all party posts as well as their primary membership with immediate effect.
The leaders said the decision was taken “with deep anguish and heavy heart,” claiming that the NPCC leadership’s actions over the past several months had created “chaos, confusion and divisions” among party workers in the district.

They alleged that instead of strengthening the organisation and upholding democratic principles, the state leadership had ignored dedicated party workers and fostered an atmosphere of mistrust and factionalism, weakening the Congress organisation in Mokokchung.
The resigning leaders further stated that they had remained loyal to the party’s ideals even during periods of organisational decline, including when the Congress was “on the verge of extinction” in 2015.
However, they said they could no longer remain “silent spectators” to what they described as the deterioration of the party organisation in Mokokchung and across the state, prompting their collective resignation from both party positions and primary membership.
The NPCC had not issued an official response to the resignations at the time of filing this report.
