The Wung Tangkhul Region of the Government of the People’s Republic of Nagalim (GPRN) has taken strong exception to a press communiqué issued by the Kuki-Zo Village Volunteer Eastern Zone (KZVV-EZ) dated May 11, 2025. In a sharply worded statement, the GPRN warned against what it called “provocative” claims made by the Kuki-Zo group in connection with the upcoming Shirui Lily Festival.

“While we appreciate the expression of best wishes towards the upcoming Shiroi Lily Festival as expected from all organizations who value the importance of awareness for the endangered and rare species Shiroi Lily, the state flower of Manipur and the need to promote responsible and sustainable tourism in the state,” the GPRN stated, adding that the festival serves to raise awareness about “the environment and local cultures of the Tangkhul Naga community and other Naga communities.”

However, the Wung Tangkhul Region expressed serious concern over an implied territorial claim by the KZVV-EZ. “What has really caught our attention is the message the KZVV-EZ is trying to convey indicating that certain villages in Ukhrul areas inhabited by the Kukis are part of the Kukiland,” the statement said.

“This is not only outrageous but provocative as well.”

The NSCN (I-M) issued a stern warning, saying, “NSCN shall not tolerate if KZVV-EZ make any wild attempt to disturb the streaming tourists targeting any particular community travelling to Ukhrul/Shiroi village.”

Declaring its position unambiguously, the GPRN stated, “Let this message be loud and clear that the territorial jurisdiction of the so-called Kukiland doesn’t cover even an inch of Naga territory in Ukhrul areas.”

It further warned that “any such misconceived message floated in print media and social media platforms will be construed as direct challenge to the NSCN in particular and to the Nagas in general.”
