Residents of Rukizu Colony in Pfutsero Town have expelled a woman from their locality over allegations of repeated physical and mental abuse of a minor girl under her foster care.

Visible bruises on the minor’s body, allegedly caused by repeated abuse under her foster guardian, have sparked outrage and led to the expulsion of the accused from Rukizu Colony, Pfutsero.

The colony’s representatives in a statement issued on Sunday condemned Mrs. Thukungolu, wife of Mr. Vezovoyi Hiesu, for what they described as “inhumane and unlawful behavior” towards the child. According to the statement, the girl had been seen with visible bruises and injuries, raising serious concerns of severe physical assault. The residents also said the minor was living under “constant emotional distress” and alleged that she was being threatened into silence.

“Such inhumane and unlawful behavior not only violate the fundamental rights of the child but also brings shame and dishonor to the moral fabric of the community,” the statement read. They also expressed deep concern for the well-being of the minor.

After a community discussion, it was unanimously resolved that Mrs. Thukungolu be permanently expelled from the colony premises and “barred from participating in any colony events or accessing common facilities with immediate effect.”

The colony members have also called on authorities to initiate strict legal action, stating that such cruelty towards a child must not go unpunished.
