Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, along with Agriculture Minister Atul Bora, inaugurated the Bhagadatta Flyover-2 at Rukminigaon on Sunday evening, marking a significant leap in Guwahati’s urban infrastructure development. The four-lane, 660-meter-long flyover aims to decongest one of the city’s busiest traffic corridors between Dispur and Six Mile.

The Rukminigaon junction, known for severe bottlenecks during peak hours, is expected to see a drastic improvement in traffic flow with the operationalization of the flyover. Commuters will now benefit from smoother and quicker travel along this critical stretch.
Built at a cost of Rs112 crore, the project was completed in a record time of just nine months. Of the total expenditure, Rs88 crore was allocated for the main structural work, while the remaining funds covered allied infrastructure and final touches.
Named in honor of King Bhagadatta, the ancient ruler of Pragjyotishpur, the flyover pays tribute to Assam’s rich cultural legacy while reflecting the state’s push for rapid modernization.
Chief Minister Sarma, speaking at the inauguration, described the project as a symbol of Assam’s resolve to create a “better, faster, and more connected” future through focused infrastructure initiatives.
