The Rising People’s Party (RPP) on Wednesday issued a statement criticizing the Government of India’s interlocutor for Naga peace talks, AK Mishra, accusing him of undermining ongoing efforts toward Naga unity. The RPP described Mishra’s latest move as “akin to putting the cart before the horse” and called for a pause in his engagements.

“It’s important that Mr Mishra explain the present status of the ‘Framework Agreement’ and the ‘Agreed Position’; whether these agreements are still relevant and whether he has managed to bring all the warring factions on board for a final settlement?” the party stated. “If yes, what is the time frame for this settlement? These are some of the queries which he needs to answer sincerely.”

Citing frustration with the lack of clarity and the “constant shifting of goalpost,” the RPP said, “We sincerely request Mr. Mishra to take a BREAK.” The party emphasized that the ongoing “Naga-led effort at unity should take precedence,” and advised the interlocutor to refrain from “fishing in troubled waters.”

The statement also took aim at the Political Affairs Committee (PAC) constituted by the ruling NDPP-BJP coalition, calling it redundant and performative. “The PAC should be disbanded… it serves no purpose than to peddle the propaganda that the NDPP-BJP coalition government is doing something,” the RPP alleged.

In a sharper critique of political leadership, the RPP said that “self-serving leaders obsessed with their own individual legacy and fiefdom have failed to understand the pulse of PM Modi’s government.” The party argued that Prime Minister Modi “respects strength” and warned that a fragmented approach would be counterproductive. “Nagas too can portray strength through a united front. But the same Prime Minister who respects strength can also show the same disdain, and it’s important that stakeholders understand this reality.”

The statement concluded with a cautionary note to political entities accused of acting against unity:
“Entities chasing self-serving goals at the cost of unity should be careful lest history denounce them as puppets and traitors.”
