The Kumlong Ward Sanitation Committee under the aegis of Kumlong Ward Yimden organized a Waste Management Workshop –cum- Launch Program of the ”Kumlong Clean and Green Initiative: A Compact Developmental Activity Plan” on the 9th of August 2025 at RTO Complex, Kumlong ward. The project was launched with Satemkala (MMC Councillor) and Wapangnaro Pongen (MMC Govt. Nominee) as the project partners and aims to educate and sensitize the residents of the ward on proper waste management beginning with the households, through various activities in the days to come.

As a part of this initiative, a door-to-door campaign will be carried out with the help of selected women volunteers from various parts of the ward. In addition, the committee also plans to roll out various plastic waste disposal strategies so as to encourage households to segregate wastes and maximize plastic waste collection.  This initiative is also partnered with NagaGenZ, a Youtube channel, as its project ambassador.

The project launch program cum workshop on waste management was chaired by Dr L Imlinichet Imchen (Secretary, Sanitation committee). Dr R Zulu, Associate Pastor, Kumlong Baptist Church pronounced the invocation for the program while Smt. Satemkala, MMC Councillor delivered the welcome address. The highlights of the day long program included a brief introduction about the aims and objectives of the project by Shri. Bendangyanger (Chairman, Sanitation committee) followed by briefing of the audience on the roadmap on the proposed door to door campaign on waste management by Smt. Wapangnaro Pongen, MMC Govt. Nominee.

The resource person for the workshop was Kilepchiba, MMC Sanitation Inspector, who thoroughly enlightened the participants on the various aspects of waste generation, segregation and disposal. He highlighted the efforts of MMC in managing the wastes generated in Mokokchung town and appealed to all that the menace of wastes can be successfully tackled only with the collaborative efforts of the various ward councils and the general public. The program was enriched with a session of question hour. The event concluded with a note of thanks from Imtitoshi, Chairman, Kumlong Ward Yimden.  (Published as received)
