The apex tribal bodies of the Lotha and Angami communities and the Ao Kaketshir Mungdang (AKM) have issued separate directives to their constituent organizations, students, and the general public to abstain from all government programs and functions, including the upcoming Independence Day 2025 celebrations on August 15, in line with the resolution of the Five Tribes Committee on Review of Reservation Policy (CoRRP).
The decision follows a joint meeting of the Five Tribes Committee comprising representatives from the Lotha, Angami, Ao, Sümi and Rengma tribes held on August 9, 2025, at Ura Hotel, Kohima, where it was unanimously resolved to abstain from participation in any government functions until further notice.

The Lotha Hoho, in its circular, directed all Lotha organizations, students, and individuals across Wokha district and Nagaland to refrain from attending or performing in any form, including cultural presentations, during Independence Day events. It reiterated its stand that the existing Nagaland Job Reservation Policy, in force for the past 48 years, has unfairly deprived “so-called advanced tribes” of opportunities in government jobs, and urged Lotha youth and students to lead a peaceful show of resentment.
Similarly, the Angami Public Organization (APO) instructed its constituent and frontal organizations, particularly SAPO, WAPO, CPO, NAPO, AWO, ASU, and AYO, to create awareness and monitor that the general public do not participate in any government functions and celebrations.
The Ao Kaketshir Mungdang (AKM) also issued a notice to all its six range students’ organizations and subordinate bodies to ensure that no students or educational institutions within their jurisdiction take part in government programs. The AKM said the directive was necessitated by the State Government’s failure to address the demands raised by the Five Tribes Committee on Review of Reservation Policy.
