The 2nd edition of the Inter Khelo India Centre (KIC) Under-16 Badminton Tournament began today at the Multi Purpose Stadium in Pfutsero, Phek district. The event is organized by the Department of Youth Resources & Sports, Nagaland.
MLA Dr Neisatuo Mero attended the opening ceremony as the special guest. He thanked the department for bringing the tournament to Pfutsero and acknowledged the state government’s support for sports and youth under Chief Minister Dr Neiphiu Rio’s leadership. Dr Mero emphasized the importance of hard work, consistency, a balanced diet, and discipline for success in sports and life.
He encouraged the participants to play honestly, respect one another, and focus on sportsmanship.
The tournament features 82 participants from KICs across Phek, Niuland, Wokha, Mokokchung, Zunheboto, Athibung (Peren), Mon, Kiphire, and Longleng. Competitors are vying for top honors in singles and doubles categories for both boys and girls.
The event’s opening was chaired by Kethosituo Sekhose, Director of Youth Resources & Sports, with a prayer by Rev Dr Kiizhopoyo Tunyi. The tournament will conclude on September 10.
