On the occasion of One Health Day 2025, the Centre for One Health–NCDC, NOHP-PCZ, Sentinel Surveillance Site, BSL-2 Lab, District Hospital Tuensang conducted an awareness programme for the health workers of District Hospital Tuensang.
One Health Day is an international campaign that celebrates the need for a One Health approach to address shared health threats at the human–animal–environment interface. The day is observed on November 3 every year with the objective of raising awareness on the concept of One Health, with the theme ”By protecting one, we help protect all.”
The awareness programme was chaired by Sungjemmenla Thonger, Lab Technician, SSS–NOHP-PCZ, DH Tuensang, while Dr. Sakuyuba Imchen, Medical Superintendent, DH Tuensang, delivered the welcome note and highlighted the essence of One Health Day, emphasizing the need for collaborative efforts among different sectors.
The theme speech was delivered by Dr. Alemba R. Jamir, Senior Specialist, DH Tuensang, who highlighted the significance of One Health Day, this year’s theme, and the challenges arising due to the absence of diagnostic facilities for various diseases such as Melioidosis.
Dr. Mohan Sharma, Microbiologist, BSL-2 Laboratory, District Hospital Tuensang, also briefed the participants on the One Health concept, priority zoonotic diseases, and the available tests in the facility.
Dr Aojongshi, Veterinary Assistant Surgeon (VAS), Tuensang, delivered a lecture on some deadly zoonotic diseases such as Brucellosis, and food-borne diseases including Salmonellosis and Cysticercosis. He also explained the role of vaccination and deworming practices in controlling common diseases originating from livestock.
The theme talk session concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Dr Tochi Chang, Nodal Officer.
A total of 39 participants attended the program, representing the CMO Office Tuensang, Forest Department, NOHP-PCZ staff, Nursing School faculty, and hospital staff.
