The Northeast India Academy of Performing Arts (NIAPA) has announced that the 5th NIAPA Northeast Open Table Tennis Tournament will be held from December 18 to 21 at the NIAPA Mini Stadium, Chümoukedima.

According to a press release, the tournament aims to promote table tennis in the state and provide exposure to local players by enabling them to compete with top paddlers from across the Northeast. The event will feature Singles, Doubles, Mixed Doubles, Under 21, Veteran Doubles, Best Duo, and Team events.

Top-ranked paddlers from the region are expected to take part, with a total cash prize of Rs. 6,00,000 on offer. This is considered one of the highest prize pools in the country for a regional tournament.

NIAPA Managing Director AK Yhome stated that the academy is committed to building a strong foundation for table tennis in Nagaland by offering opportunities for competition, growth, and exposure. She added that the tournament reflects NIAPA’s long-term vision of uplifting sports and nurturing talent across multiple disciplines.

The four-day event will begin with the Veteran competition, followed by the Team, Under 21, and individual categories, culminating in the finals on December 21.

A new category, the “Best Duo,” has been introduced to give special focus to Nagaland players. The winning pair will receive Rs. 15,000, the runners-up Rs. 12,000, and the semifinalists Rs. 4,000 each.

Cash prizes have been declared across all categories. The Team event awards Rs. 1,00,000 for first place and Rs. 50,000 for second. Men’s Singles winners will receive Rs. 25,000, Rs. 15,000, and Rs. 5,000 for semifinalists, while Women’s Singles offer Rs. 20,000, Rs. 12,000, and Rs. 4,000 respectively. Women’s Doubles carry prizes of Rs. 25,000, Rs. 15,000, and Rs. 5,000 while Men’s Doubles offer Rs. 30,000, Rs. 20,000, and Rs. 5,000. Mixed Doubles winners will receive Rs. 30,000, with Rs. 20,000 for second and Rs. 5,000 for semifinalists.

In the Under 21 category, prizes are Rs. 15,000, Rs. 10,000, and Rs. 4,000 for semifinalists, while the Women’s Under 21 category carries Rs. 10,000, Rs. 7,000, and Rs. 3,000 respectively.

Veteran Doubles will award Rs. 15,000 for first place, Rs. 12,000 for second, and Rs. 4,000 for semifinalists. Additional awards such as Best Naga Player of the Day will also be presented.

The organizing committee stated that each category must have more than eight participants for the event to be confirmed.
